why not? & sweetness abounds
(from Tia Smith's journal, a while back)
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the "coolest" book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

"For seven years the young wife languished, alone save for the visits of her wardens and of her aged spouse."

That would be from the wonderful Time-Life Books series "The Enchanted World", "Fairies and Elves" edition. These books are quite wonderful.

and in other news, got my grades today, and they owned. Satire, Short Story Workshop, and Phil-O-Religion: A's. Intro to Creative Writing, Nati-Sci 1: B+'s. How I managed an A in SS Workshop, when the only grades i knew about were a B- and a B+, I don't know, b/c, frankly, all the other stories I turned in right at the end were thrown together. rockin.

home is being good to me. hung out with the jan-a-na twice, mr. t-smith yesterday (met Sara's b-friend as well: dead baby/Helen Keller jokes within an hour... good man), almost done with x-mas shopping, and my sis carly and future brother -in-law rich are coming tonight. sweetness abounds.

my user pic
so, i changed my user pic for ari, and her dirty mind :P

and i just saw Nosferatu, with music by Type O Negative, and it was quite fun. that's a really well shot flick, creepy images, love that science lesson (venus fly trap = vampire, microorginism with "claws" = vampire...)

i am indeed looking forward to Thanksgiving, and seeing my family (including bro and sis!), and food. thanksgiving has officially become my favorite holiday, it's all about the basics: family, good food (pumpkin pie, turkey, cranberry sauce, creamed corn... all the classics) relaxation, football, parades on tv, lethargy, leaves, the wonderful Autumnalness...

i've been fairly busy, but not in any interesting ways, really... i got a 90% on my poem for Murabito, my best grade in that class yet, woo!

that's it

deasy and wandering in the woods
so yesterday was the tender jivings of singer-songwriter Bill Deasy at the Exchange, he had this sort of story-teller tone, decent lyrics, and excellent crowd control. he also brought a slew of people to campus.

turned in five poems and two short stories to Pendulum ("Makeover", "Worms", "inaword", "micro-cosmic coffee house", "Sphinxly Angelic", "after i lost it", and "shadow").

saw "lost in translation", it was pretty good, not as awesome as many made it out to be, but enjoyable. the shots of tokyo were beautiful, dialogue could've been spruced up a little.

ari's still sick (mono), but she was in high spirits today and managed to eat some of a sandwich.

jack and i walked through the woods to a convienence store this afternoon, the path there was lush woody, grassy, brush-filled goodness, and it's nice to know there's one within walking distance.

internet back!
i got internet back this morning, it was out all weekend. yay.

wrote lots of poetry this weekend as I waited for a halloween party i missed (mostly through my own stupidity), but, poetry makes me happy. finished revising "Makeover" my short-story for Intro to Creative Writing class, took out some cute and cliche, added some cringe. should work.

ariane's been sick... but i think she's pretty much better now...

that's really about it, nobody showed up to Open Mic tonight, and I was going to get some poetry-reading up on people's asses... losers.

"America... Fuck Yeah!"
So, Team America was lots of good deep laughs and high quotability. I put it in between the South Park Movie and Cannibal The Musical... some liked South Park Movie better, still, good company. It ended with one of the best monologues ever in the history of Man, summing up foreign policy by the anology of dicks, (american military/ conservatives) pussies (pacifists/ liberals) and assholes (terrorists). Go see it, you'll smile and the glow will hold out.

also saw "Ever After" again last night, over in Ari's room. good flick, quite fun.

Amnesty party tomm. night up at kelly's squirrly hill apartment, yay! An excellent way to end midterms week.

Yves Jean tonight, then male bonding.

"America has the best health care system in the world" ???
so:

yesterday night was the big campus political debate among the college progressive, college democrats (including myself, will, andy, and brynnly), and the college rupublicans. college dems rocked the socks off the repubs (a college republican, on considering negotiating with possible terrorist groups before attacking them: "they can't negotiate if they're all dead")

one of the college republicans stated that "America has the best health care system in the world" at which point i had to add "for the rich..." then she was asked what standard was being used to judge this, as the international community kinda dissagreed, at which point she said something to the effect of "i don't really care about the 'global standard'"... *shudder*

in other news:

my right hand is still sore from my satire midterm, lots and lots of writing (j. brown: "Picture Sayre Greenfield on a horse, chasing a fox and shouting 'Tally Ho!'")

someone found a quasi-shakespearean love letter at the coffee house. jack, matt, and myself read it outloud outside of Chambers, and we mad-quasi-interpretive-danced it. hillarity ensued for some time, and to a nearly absurd degree.

i met ari's best friend from back home. she was quite amusing. seems like a decent person, hope she comes by some time in future times.

seeing "Team America: World Police" tonight.yess! will give full review afterwards.

Poem of the Day:

"and the puss draining out in puddles"

a mosaic of the skin
I peeled off my foot
that blistered when I
played basketball barefoot.
it's of sunflowers.
